Contador
Wins The Tour De France 30/7/07
Alberto Contador finished safely in the peloton to win his
first Tour de France, while Daniele Bennati prevailed in a
bunch sprint on the Champs-Elysée.
A controvercial Tour De
France this year with riders being sacked, riders testing
positive for banned drugs can the Tour or cycling in
general ever recover it's credibility which has
taken a battering over the last 2 weeks, which started off
in the UK.
Speculation had been rife as to whether Cadel Evans, lying
23 seconds behind Contador on the general classification,
would launch one last bid for victory, though it never
came, and the stage was predictably contested between the
sprinters.
As well as capturing the
yellow jersey, Contador also won the white jersey as the
best young rider at the Tour, while Tom Boonen secured his
first green jersey and Juan Mauricio Soler gave Barloworld
the polka dot jersey in their first ever appearance at the
race.
The peloton was full of its
traditional final day high-jinks over the first half of
the stage, with riders posing for photographs and giving
each other high fives, before the Discovery Channel team
of Contador moved to the front of the peloton after the
intermediate sprint at Chatenay-Malabry, and the real
racing began, but Contador held out superbly for a great
win.

Football Star David Beckham Moves In To America With LA Galaxy
18/7/07
The Beckhams' exodus to Los Angeles could well become a
permanent one, Victoria Beckham has revealed. Despite earlier
reports that her husband David is looking forward to returning
to England in a few years, Victoria said yesterday: "We are
going to be here a long time, this might be where we spend the
rest of our lives."
"We are so excited about America ... This is a huge move for
us, for our children." And amid fireworks and ticker-tape,
David Beckham was last night given his first taste of life as
an all-American soccer star.
He was welcomed to the LA
Galaxy football club in a bizarre ceremony at the team's
ground in Carson, California. The former England captain
was forced to make an uncomfortable speech to the crowd
of fans and media in which he said: "For me, the most
important thing in my life is my family. The second most
important is the football." Correcting himself he said:
"Oh, the soccer. I'll get used to that, sorry."
After his rise in
football stardom at Manchester United winning many
trophies he was sold to Spain's Real Madrid where to has
just some of the best few months of his career, playing
some superb football and winning La Liga with Madrid
David will be looking to
shake of an ankle injury to play in his first game for
LA Galaxy against UK opponents Chelsea who are on their
pre season tour of the US.

Brazil have become the 2007 winners of the Copa America Football cup
after a superb victory over the favourites Argentina. Julio
Baptista took the lead for Brazil after just 4 mins with
a super strike on the edge of the box and they doubled
their lead with an own goal for Ayala on 40 mins.
The Argentina side rarely looked like scoring and as they started
to push forward they were caught on the break with 20 mins left when
Alves was put in on goal and smashed in a great goal to secure the

Want To Look Your Best At Work Coming In To
The Party Season This Christmas. 11/2006
LOOKING your best at work is vital if you want to be taken seriously
– but this can be a challenge if you’ve spent the night partying.
Especially this time of year.
As the Christmas party season gets under way, we have come to your
rescue.
We reveal the single most important
tip about what to do when you stagger home — and give you a
60-minute failsafe guide on how to look more glam than grunge the
morning after.
3am: You arrive home
four hours before you have to get up for work. Don’t collapse on
your bed immediately. Instead, drink a large glass of water to help
rehydrate your body. We know it’s often the last thing you want to
do but it really does make a difference.
7am: Make yourself a
cup of tea, soaking two extra teabags. Squeeze and pop into freezer.
7.10am: Splash face with warm water to open pores,
use a suitable face wash. Next, splash several times with cool water
to close pores and give you a fresh, healthy look.
Shower, alternating between warm and cool water. To wake yourself up
even more, use an invigorating shower gel.
7.20am: Take five
minutes to relax with the cooled teabags on your eyes. This
old-fashioned remedy really works. Cheap teabags contain more
tannin, the ingredient that acts as a depuffing agent.
7.25am: Use a couple of refreshing drops.
7.30am: Have breakfast and drink more water.
7.40am: Time for the make-up. Apply a light moisturiser and
put on your foundation.
Eyes need to look open and awake
rather than overly made-up, so use eyelash curlers to give wide-open
look. For extra lift, heat them with a hairdryer, then squeeze
lashes for three seconds. Or use a lash-curling mascara. Blusher is
a must but use cream or liquid products for a natural flush. Keep
lips natural but moist.
7.50am: An often
forgotten product is dry shampoo. It’s fantastic for occasional use.
Spray on, then brush through your hair thoroughly so all traces of
product disappear. Not only does this soak up excess oils but it
takes away nasty tell-tale smells such as cigarette smoke. Brush
long hair into a smooth pony tail, then plait and twist the plait
around the band and secure firmly with hairpins. Push shorter hair
back neatly with an Alice band or some decorative clips.
7.55am: Dress in
your smartest office outfit. A white top is good because it will
reflect light into your face. For the final touch, spray on a light
refreshing perfume.
8am: Leave for work
9am: Arrive at work. No one will ever know.
Shhh. |

Can
Smoking Protect Against Parkinson's??? 10/2006
A study in Swedish twins confirms that smoking is associated with a
reduced risk of Parkinson's disease.
"The association in part is explained by genetic influences," says
Dr. Nancy L. Pedersen from the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm.
"Hence, further attempts to study risk factors in general for
Parkinson's disease should entertain the possibility that there are
complex interactions between genetic mechanisms and putative risk
factors."
Pedersen and her
colleagues investigated the previously reported link between smoking
and a reduced risk for Parkinson's by analysing data from the
Swedish Twin Registry.
The authors found
that both current smokers and past smokers were less likely to
develop Parkinson's disease than people who had never smoked.
The association
was stronger in men than in women and the risk of Parkinson's
decreased as the number of cigarettes smoked per week increased, the
authors note in the Annals of Neurology.
As to the reason
for the association, the researchers note that cigarette smoke may
contain chemicals that protect nerve cells from damage.
Further analysis
showed that neither alcohol nor coffee was associated with
Parkinson's disease risk.
"We have not
planned any further studies directly, although we may be exploring
whether there is a genetic interaction between smoking and certain
genes," Pedersen said. |

Stop
Snoring By Losing Weight 10/2006
Most men deny they snore. If they admit to it they'll probably say
'it doesn't bother me, it's not doing me any harm'. What they may
not realize is that it might be.
Over three and a
half million people snore. Four out of ten men and up to three out
of ten women. Millions of partners and neighbours suffer sleep
disturbed nights too.
The noise of
snoring is caused by parts of the nose and throat, in particular the
soft palate, vibrating as you breath in and out. At night, muscles
that help keep your airways open relax and become floppy, the
airways narrow, vibrate more, so snoring is more likely.
Alcohol and also
sleeping tablets relax these muscles more and being overweight puts
pressure on the airways.
A nose blocked by
a cold, allergy, nasal polyps, or damaged and crooked from playing
rugby for example, means you're likely to breathe through your mouth
making snoring more likely.
Smokers are twice
as likely as non-smokers to snore because their airways get inflamed
and blocked. |

Study Shows
Fish Is Good For You - So Eat Plenty Of It
10/2006
A joint statement released today from the National Fisheries
Institute, the U.S. Tuna Foundation and the Food Products
Association said:The National Academy of Sciences’ Institute of
Medicine (IOM) report issued today confirms the advice that leading
health experts in the federal government, the American Heart
Association, American Dietetic Association and others have provided
for years:
Americans should eat a variety of fish at least twice a week. To
promote a healthy lifestyle, it is essential consumers recognize the
many benefits of eating fish, which is low in calories and saturated
fat, rich in nutrients and essential to a balanced diet.
An expert panel convened by the IOM, a world-renowned scientific
institution, weighed the benefits and risks of eating seafood and
concluded that consumers who eat at least two servings weekly from a
variety of fish gain significant health benefits without risk from
trace levels of mercury and other contaminants in seafood.
